When should you apply moisturizer for dry skin?
Right after you bathe, while skin is still damp. The American Academy of Dermatology also says to reapply several times a day and after washing your hands.
Timing matters
AAD says to gently pat skin dry after a shower or bath and apply a fragrance-free moisturizer right away, while skin is still damp.
How often
Apply moisturizer several times a day: after bathing, after washing your hands, and whenever skin feels dry.
When to stop
Stop a product and see a board-certified dermatologist if you get burning, swelling, blistering, hives, or symptoms that get worse. Get urgent help for trouble breathing or swelling of the face or lips.
